EKG Technicians are responsible for performing electrocardiogram tests in order to record and monitor electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. This assists a physician in diagnosing and treating cardiac and blood vessel irregularities. These tests include basic EKG's, Holter Monitoring (portable EKG which records activity for 24-48 hrs.), and Stress Tests (treadmill).

People who are interested in becoming an EKG technician should posses a High School diploma or equivalent. EKG Technicians who perform basic EKG's, Holter Monitoring, and Stress tests may opt for a one year program at a community college or vocational/technical school, however most EKG technicians are still trained on the job in 8 -16 week programs by an EKG supervisor or Cardiologist.
